The Spring Island Golf House is located on a beautiful course
designed by Arnold Palmer. The Golf house enjoys panoramic views of
the Chechessee Marsh and a visual link to the historic tabby ruins
of Spring Island. The main building houses the restaurant, bar, and
locker rooms. Patios and covered porches off the restaurant
overlook the 18th green and marsh beyond and a terraced lawn
provides a beautiful space for large, outdoor gatherings. The Pro
Shop is connected to the main building by walks. Extensive
landscaping softens the buildings allowing them to become part of
the natural landscape. A grove of planted oaks anchors the Golf
House to the site and surrounding natural landscape. The parking
for the Golf House was designed to fit within the planted oak trees
while cart parking is nestled under existing oak trees to the rear of the Pro
Shop. This location screens it from not only the building entrance
but also the restaurant and patios. The cart barn, located
across the parking lot from the building is heavily screened and is virtually
invisible from the Golf House. Native planting and unpaved drives
also help blend the built to the natural environments. The design
of the Spring Island Golf House reinforces the character of the
original master plan and the theme of "Nature Park".
